Biography

“Up Up And Away” proved to be the song that gave lift-off to The 5th Dimension in 1967, and the group spent the next decade flying high.

That first Top 10 hit peaked at No. 7 and swept the Grammy Awards, winning both the Record of the Year and the Song of the Year and pushing the album, also titled Up, Up and Away, to gold status.

Unique vocals that combined pop, R & B, soul, jazz, light opera and Broadway translated into 14 gold records, six platinum records and six Grammy Awards. The 5th Dimension’s classic and timeless hits include “One Less Bell to Answer,” “Stone Soul Picnic,” “Last Night I Didn’t get to Sleep At All,” “Wedding Bell Blues” and “Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In, which spent six weeks at No. 1 and sold three million copies.

The 5th Dimension is in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame (2001) and has stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (1991) and the St. Louis Walk of Fame (2010). The group performed at the White House four times.

The original five broke up in 1975 with the departure of lead singers Marilyn McCoo and husband Billy Davis, Jr, although the group reunited for a tour in 1990. Original member Florence LaRue now tours with Willie Williams, Leonard Tucker, Patrice Morris and Floyd Smith. While LaRue works hard to remain true to the sound of The 5th Dimension’s original recordings, the group has expanded its vocal range and added fresh material to their shows.

The 5th Dimension has headlined in Las Vegas and Atlantic City and continues to tour throughout the United States, Europe and the Orient. They opened 2015 with back-to-back Florida appearances in The Villages and Tampa, and tour for as many as 30 weeks a year.  A portion of the group’s performing itinerary includes concerts with prestigious symphony orchestras, and their family-friendly show has made them favorites at Disney Land and Disney World.
