Biography

New York City native Robin Givens took lessons in music, dance and theater arts as a child,
and was so academically gifted that she entered the prestigious Sarah Lawrence College
when she was 15. After graduation at age 19, she gained admittance to Harvard’s graduate
school of medicine (1984) only to leave the program to pursue a full-time acting career. By
1986 Givens was familiar to American television viewers for her featured role as Darlene
Merriman in the ABC sitcom “Head of the Class” which went on to enjoy a five-year run. In
1991, Givens appeared in her first feature film, “A Rage In Harlem”, and in 1992 she had a
supporting role in “Boomerang” which starred Eddie Murphy. In 1996, Givens began a
three-year run on UPN’s television comedy “Sparks” and she also appeared in the 1999
television movie “Michael Jordan: An American Hero.” Recently, Givens appeared in the
2016 drama film “God’s Not Dead 2,” and she has a recurring role as Mayor Sierra McCoy on
the CW Network’s teen drama “Riverdale,” which begins production for Season 2 in
October. Givens is the mother of two boys. Her autobiography “Grace Will Lead Me Home”
was published in 2007.
