Biography
International Hall of Famer (2002) Pam Shriver is one of the greatest doubles players of all time, teaming with Martina Navratilova to win 20 Grand Slam titles and a run of 109 consecutive wins between 1983 and 1985. The pair won the Grand Slam of tennis (1984) during that record stretch, and 79 titles overall. Twenty-two Grand Slam wins were among Shriver’s 112 doubles titles, and she was also a 1988 Olympic gold medalist and two-time US Fed Cup champion. The success of her doubles game overshadowed 21 singles titles over a 15-year career, with her biggest achievement coming as a 16-year-old when she reached the 1978 US Open final against Chris Evert. Shriver also reached eight Grand Slam singles semifinals, and was in the Top 10 throughout the ‘80s with a career-best No. 3 ranking. The Baltimore native has worked as a tennis commentator for all the major networks since retiring from the game, including ESPN where she has worked since 1990. She serves as one of the network’s primary commentators on its extensive tennis schedule, which has included all Grand Slams events since 2009. A past president of the Women’s Tennis Association (1991-1994), Shriver currently serves on the board of directors of the USTA Foundation and the Southern California Tennis Association. Her three children play in a tennis youth league in Los Angeles.
